Domino Bloggers - Show Yourselves
Laurette and
Tim Rynne have setup a
directory for Domino Bloggers. Take a couple of seconds today and add a link to your blog so that the rest of us can hear what you have to say.

Hmmmm...
This is exactly what I was trying to do with www.thesickos.com as a site. A one stop shop for everything relating to Domino Bloggers... already the blogroll is pretty huge, and I planned on having a dynamic OPML file as well as the ability to enter your own blog soon...
So, I don't know what we should do about the duplicate efforts now... hmmmm

I guess no one thought of that! Maybe you and the Rynne's should have a three-some and decide what to do with the duplicate efforts. For what it's worth, you can also take a peek at my blog list and see if there is anyone you don't already have.

Frankly, it's going to be a lot easier to build credibility for a commmunity around www.dominoblogs.com vs. www.thesickos.com . Imagine going to someone who doesn't "get it" and saying "oh, surf over to www.thesickos.com and see all the Domino bloggers"

I already have a blogroll of nearly 200 Domino bloggers, with automatically generated OPML coming out of my bloggregator database.
I'm modifying the bloggregator database for John Head to set up to pull in all the Show 'n Tell feeds. Why not set up a version for all the full Domino feeds? John was planning on adding a "Submit your feed" capability for the Show 'n Tell feeds, so we could do the same for this.

#3 - True Ed, I can see that, but I also see that thesickos.com is FAR more memorable to the average user. I can make sure there is a very prominent link as to "Why is this called 'The Sickos'?" to explain. But trust me, I do understand the concern...
I'm just one that doesn't concern myself with such things :-)
Rich, I think you should make the ONE TRUE LIST, and put it on yellowisthenewblack.com myself...
I can find other stuff for thesickos.com I guess... It's just such a cool, personal name for the site :-)

wow, I had no idea this would be such a contentious idea! I agree with Ed, as we've mentioned before, there was a lot of chat around the grounds at Lotusphere about what is "the sicko's" all about. Within the Australian contigent particularly there was great confusion about what it was, and more importantly why people would want to a) remember such a negative thing and b) be known as a "sicko" which is a pretty derogatory name.
@5 - Grey, I'm not sure that "thesickos.com" is memorable to anyone who wasn't involved in the initial "joke", and I don't see anything particularly hard to remember about "dominoblogs".
As we discussed with Mac Guirard and Declan and also Chris Miller at Lotusphere there is nothing to say that we can't have as many URLs as possible advertising Domino bloggers - after all we are all just looking for a little publicity and recognition, but it would be great if we could share the lists.
@4 - Rich, one of the key things about what we are trying to build at dominoblogs.com is that it's NOT a blogroll. Blogrolls can get very long, and it doesn't give any information about what this blog is other than a name. We are hoping to provide information about the content, and region, so it can also help to bring people together outside the blogosphere as well.
It's also not designed to be an aggregator, but there is not reason why the directory couldn't be fed into your aggregator. The RSS feed we are talking about creating is an RSS of the directory list - NOT the actual blogs. People have lots of ways they read and manage information coming from blogs. This is just a directory, not a way to read the blogs.
Also, it's self registration...no one has to know about you first, and you can choose to be added. We deliberately didn't add my existing blog feeds because some people may not want to make themselves known, and also because some bloggers have fallen inactive. This is kind of a way to "start fresh"?
Finally, it's not linked to any one person or subset group within the community. Tim & I are certainly not trying to "own" this list in any way - we want it to be community managed, which means that if someone (eg Rich) already has an OPML builder, great - can't we share that? The more people involved the better a resource it will be.
Anyway, as I've said, we are more than happy to share the love - it shouldn't really matter what the source is, as long as we end up with a definitive list, and that newcomers feel comfortable adding their name (and blog and reputation) to the group.

Hi Laurette,
I didn't want to seem like I wasn't "getting along" or this was contentious at all. I just didn't want to see duplicated work.
Also, all of the features you talked about (regional tagging, type of info - admin/dev/etc.) was already on my radar and something I was already working on. It just wasn't announced yet since it wasn't finished and I didn't want to announce anything if it was going to take me a long time to release...
So in all, you were basically building the same thing I had planned and that's why I wanted to discuss it asap.
I did try to send you an email to your support AT dominoblogs.com address from gmail and it bounced, so I thought I would throw it out there for discussion.
As for the name "the sickos" it wasn't a joke. It was taking the derogatory term used against the community, and turning it around on the purpetrator. And, the thing that makes me think the name is good is the simple fact that you said there was a lot of chat about what it was all about. A lot of people were talking...so it generated a little buzz.
Trust me, I do get that some people might not be comfortable with being a "sicko" so I have wondered about that... but I don't think it should be outright dismissed. It wasn't meant to be a joke site. And still isn't.
BUT... in the same vein, I don't want to duplicate effort, because I think communities thrive when there isn't confusion about where to get the best info...
So I just want to see the discussion about it and see where it falls. Maybe dominoblogs.com becomes the directory, yellowisthenewblack.com becomes a unified blogroll, and the sickos.com just blogs about community stuff and maybe increases the store. I just don't think we should overlap.

Hi Grey - that was my own little joke, I know it's all just about trying to sort things out. My longer comment on this has been moved over to thesickos, so we can have the conversation in one place!
