What’s your entrance music?

Any of us who played sports as a kid have dreamed about running onto the field as a professional to the cheers of fans.  These days, each athlete seems to have their own entrance music.  Most of it is hard rock and hip hop, but every now and then something interesting is played.  During the '80s, Pat Benatar's "Hit Me With Your Best Shot" was always played when the Caps took the ice at the Capital Centre.

If I were able to choose my own music, the choice would be an easy one, albeit not one that would come to mind for everyone.  I didn't choose G 'n R's "Welcome to the Jungle", Metallica's "Enter the Sandman", or Alice in Chains' "Man in the Box".  As much as I love the emotions they evoke, "Gonna Fly Now" (Rocky's theme) and "Eye of the Tiger" from Rocky, "Ride of the Valkyries" from Apocalypse Now, "O Fotuna" from Excalibur, and "Chariots of Fire" are out.

For me, the only choice is Red Ryder's "Lunatic Fringe".  You show me a former wrestler who can listen to that song and not feel the juices starting to flow and I will show you a wrestler who either never saw Vision Quest or was an absolute fish.  Just listening to it makes me want to put on a singlet and smash someone's nose with a good, hard crossface.  Bring it on, Shoot!!!

So if you were able to choose your own music to hear when you took the field, what would it be?

    We should *SO* try this at ILUG2008. Can you imagine having your fave tune play before you start your session?

    However, I digress. Mine would have to have been (back in the days when I played Rugby) "The Boys Are Back In Town" by Thin Lizzy. If I was to pick something more up-to-date, then it would have to be something like "30/30/150" by Stone Sour.

    @Frank - If you got a copy of your music on an iPod or your computer, I definitely think it should be a part of the show!

    @Frank

    If you need a iPlod with loads of Lizzie @ ilug i am your

    man.. however Lizzie's Cold Sweat might be more apt, esp if I am in the audience with my list of difficult questions...

    ...Stone cold sober and stone cold sweat

    Running down the back of my neck ...

    Thank god I am not speaking I would so have to come on to

    Wayne County and the Electric Chairs "if you don't wann **** me baby **** off" , but then i AM a coarse hairy heathen who pays scant attention to the sensibilities of others :)

    Having just had a look at the plod in question..

    "Nowhere" by Therapy?

    or

    "Cochise" by Audioslave

    Mind you to give proper justice to Chris Cornell's vocals.. it would have be drums playing as the room is in complete darkness as it build and builds...then thrunderflashes and fireworks....I appear tru the smoke to vast applause.... LOVELY

    I got chills reading this. I watched Vision Quest before every single football game of my Senior year in HS. That movie works across all sports :)

    Also, how about this one: { Link }

    I was (well, still am) a golfer so entrance music never really crossed my mind. But I think "Drum Trip" by Rusted Root would work for me.

    Tend to do this at sphere, and play whatever I like at the moment through the PA system... but at ILUG - hell... go for it.... weirdest song gets a beer!

    @Chris - LOL! Nice choice.

    Mine is the one that I have also told my kids to play at my funeral/memorial:

    Kickstart My Heart from Motley Crue

    Rock on!

    Tougher than leather - RUN DMC

    or

    Break Stuff - Limp Bizkit

    or

    Sex Type Thing - Stone Temple Pilots

    Usually these songs are on my playlist when I go paintballing.

    Tough choice. Can I go with a section of a song, rather than a whole song? There's a section in Elton John's Funeral For a Friend that I think would be great. Starting at 3:28 with a slow buildup of intensity and ending at 5:22 after a series of great guitar riffs, just before the transition into Love Lies Bleeding. The 30ish seconds starting at 4:19 aren't particularly exciting, but I could live with it.

    Not an easy one, this...

    I think I'm going to go with Deep Purple's "Wring That Neck".

    But make it an orchestral version - the one from their 25th anniversary of the Concerto for Group and Orchestra, featuring Ian Paice on drums and the horn section of the London Symphony Orchestra. Cracking.

    If that's not available, I could go for "Wine, Women An' Song" by Whitesnake.

    Actually, sod the song. Just bring me the wine and women, and we'll make our own damned song. ;-)

    Great thread! Sorry I'm late to the party, I'm catching up on my blog reading.

    Mine's easy, it's "I Want Candy" by Bow Wow Wow. :-)
