Verizon FiOS is futbol heaven

Last week, I gladly turned in my Comcast cable boxes and setup my new Verizon FiOS set top boxes. I don't even want to think about the money that Comcast has received from me over the years. Their lack of customer service and constant price increases made me yearn for something else. Luckily, Verizon has their FiOS service in my area now and I jumped at the chance to change.

There are some things about the new service that I don't like as well as Comcast's, but the positives outweigh the negatives. The picture seems to be much sharper and we haven't seen any pixelation that had been occuring with Comcast. But the largest positive by far is the addition of 3 soccer channels. I now get to see English Premier League soccer on a daily basis, sometimes live.   In addition, Spanish, Italian, German, and other European and South American leagues are shown on a regular basis. Fox Soccer Channer, GolTV, and Fox Spanish show all the soccer I care to watch.  What a nice little nugget for a formet futbol player such as myself.

Very cool. You're the first person I know to get the FiOS service. I'm assuming it's your internet too? If so, what are your speeds up and down? Also, how long did it take to get set up? Lastly, do they have DVR service? Give us the deets man! :-)

Yes, I got the entire package. I started with phone and Internet service in September. The phone service has been very good, with no interference that I had been getting on the regular phone lines. I opted for the 15MB Up/2MB Down upgraded Internet service. I have been relatively happy with the speed and have not seen the nightly slowdown I did with the Comcast service. The installation took a few hours in Sept since they had to run the FiOS cable to the house. The actual work inside the house took about 90 minutes.

The TV hook up was much quicker. In less than 60 minutes, we had 3 televisions hooked up to the new services, with all 3 boxes activated. The set top box activation took the longest time. The FiOS service runs over your existing Coax cables, so there are almost no changes inside your house.

I chose to get the Media Center edition of their HD DVR box. This box allows me to record my shows on one box and watch them on any other box in the house.
