SESSION INFORMATION

Session ID:
BP304
Session Title:
Blog It Up, Baby! Extending the new IBM Lotus Domino Blog Template
Suggested Track:
Track Four: Best Practices
Technical level:

Abstract:
Get your blog on! Learn how to customize and extend IBM's revolutionary Lotus Domino 7.0.2 Blog Template to your company's design standards using traditional Web design techniques. Add HTML, CSS , JavaScript, and images without opening IBM Lotus Domino Designer! Use special DX tags to control which features appear on your blog and reuse blocks of markup. Learn how to easily mix other Lotus Domino applications into your site design! Extend your own content by integrating Web services from Google, tracking comments with coComment, marking up your content with Technorati tags, visualizing your visitors with Gravatar images, and much, much more!

Both John and I have a lot of experience with the template that Steve created and have some great ideas about extending it.  If there is anything that you have seen on either of our sites or another blog, please let me know and I will see what we can do about adding it to the presentation.

Can't wait to see you guys do this!

Sweet! Congratulations! I might end up not being able to go, but I'll be there in spirit. :D

  • 3) Hmmmmm... - Nathan T. Freeman

I'm fairly sure you weren't supposed to say anything about that just yet.

    I'm just sayin' ;-)

Look forward to the session, though

  • 4) Great news! - Alan Lepofsky

I'd love to see a full explanation of the Banner, HTMLBottom, HTMLTop, LeftSideBar, and SearchBox Blocks. Also, a detailed outline of the various sections inside the CSS file. I was able to search and replace some colours for my site, but other than that I did not know what I was doing. I'd like to learn how to change the layout, add drop down menus to the top banner (like Steve has on his own site), and more. I'd also like to know how to embed flash files into my posts, and how to add a thumbnail of an image, and be able to click on that image and have a full size version of the picture pop up in a new window. Save me a seat front row, this is a session I don't want to miss.

  • 5) The link to John is wrong... - Alan Lepofsky

    you have { Link } in the list above, it should be { Link }

  • 6) Rut Roh! - Sean Burgess

@Alan Thanks for all the ideas and the catch on the link. That's what I get for thinking I know the URL without actually looking it up.

@Nathan I hope you're wrong, but you're probably right. Going in so many directions these days it's hard for me to keep things straight. Oh well, can't put the genie back in the bottle now. The thing is, I really wanted to get as much feedback from the blog community at large before we decided on the final content for our presentation that I needed to get the word out as soon as possible to allow us time to come up with something special. I do hope the LS gods will forgive me.

I wasn't able to attend. Just curious if you are going to post the flash file?

  • 9) Re: Files - Sean Burgess

The presentation will be up on Slideshare before the end of the weekend. The flash files should be up sometime this week. If I have time, I will add some of the web 2.0 stuff to the blog we were demonstrating and post that too.
